A Changing World

By now, anybody with a pulse and following the course of events must have realized that the current period in the world economy is, by far, the most eventful in at least two generations (since the Great Depression of the 30's). I'll go ahead and wager that this will be a game changing period in world history with massive realignments in the global power structure. Future economists and historians will look at this period much as we look at the Great Depression, and debate and discuss what caused it, what was done, what should have been done, ad infinitum. Now, I am not saying that a depression the magnitude of GD is a certainity and that history will repeat itself - may be in the USA, but I am not just discussing individual countries here. The USA is important to the discussion, but only because it is currently the biggest economy in the world. But there have emerged other power centers in the world, not in the least because of a massive transfer of wealth and skills that has been happening from the USA to other countries (some more than others, such as China). Nonetheless, we are living in interesting times and there are massive opportunities for people and countries who are aware of the changes currently occurring and which will be in motion in the near future. Whoever recognizes and acts fastest to fill the the voids in the global power structures being created will emerge as the key player in global affairs in the future - much as the USA has been for the past century. The discourse in this blog will focus on all aspects of the changes currently happening, principally:
1. A running commentary - if you will - on the events currently occurring.
2. What is causing them.
3. What does it mean for the future.
